Joe Leo

With a background in psychology, comprehensive international teaching experience from Thailand to Madrid, with therapeutic roles at the University of Michigan CS Mott Children’s and University Hospital, and a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work; I believe we thrive when we are appreciated, mistakes are allowed, communication is open, and you have the right to feel respected and worthy for who you are.

We do not necessarily have the power to choose our life situations, the cards we were dealt, or the initial feelings that we experience. We can explore your narrative experiences, patterns, thoughts, and feelings in therapy. Strive for a balance of growth and acceptance. We lead with honesty, appreciating cherished relationships, and developing your life to make the best use of your unique talents. When it comes to my therapeutic approach, you will be heard, seen, and appreciated for who you are. The primary areas of clinical interest are mood and anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, stress management, chronic illness, adjustment disorder, addiction, behavioral problems, LGBTQ-affirming care, and relationship issues.I firmly believe in affirming treatment for individuals, couples, and groups for any race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, and/or national origin.

I use a holistic approach, integrating a few different therapeutic modalities: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Strength-Based Approach, Gottman Method, Satir Method, and Narrative Therapy. My goal is to help you develop an opportunity to discover meaning, find healing, and establish or reestablish an identity, to be successful and excited.
