From the Desk of the Clinical Director: Mary Rothfusz
In my work as both a mental health counselor and a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, I’ve supported countless people navigating overwhelm, anxiety, depression, burnout, and stress. These challenges often appear in multiple areas of life, but work is one of the most common and overlooked sources.
Many businesses already invest in wellness initiatives—fitness incentives, quiet rooms, or discounts for health-related activities. While these can be valuable, they don’t always address mental health in a way that’s proactive, preventative, and sustainable. Mental wellness is just as essential as physical wellness—and the most effective workplaces treat them as inseparable.
As Clinical Director of a team of over 40 clinicians, my top priority after client care is the well-being of my team. The research is clear: when employees have the tools and support to manage their stress and mental health, everyone benefits. Employees feel more resourced, teams work more effectively, and organizations see increased productivity and reduced turnover.
Why Mental Health Belongs in Workplace Wellness
Supporting employee mental health is not only a moral responsibility—it’s a smart business strategy. Resourced, emotionally balanced employees are more creative, adaptable, and engaged. Addressing mental health before issues escalate can prevent burnout, reduce absenteeism, and even lower healthcare costs.
Unfortunately, many organizations only step in when stress has already reached crisis levels—when burnout is severe enough to require extended leave under FMLA or when turnover is already impacting the bottom line. But there’s so much we can do before things get that far.

Proactive Solutions That Work
Therapy and evidence-based programs like MBSR are proven methods for improving focus, resilience, and emotional regulation. MBSR, in particular, combines mindfulness meditation and gentle movement with practical stress management strategies, helping people navigate daily pressures without becoming overwhelmed.
In the corporate context, these tools can be tailored to address the unique challenges of specific industries or teams. Whether it’s managing high workloads, navigating workplace relationships, or building sustainable work-life balance, the skills employees learn can be applied immediately—and the benefits ripple outward.
Our Complimentary Workplace Seminar
At Modern Therapy Group, we’re excited to offer businesses a complimentary 35–40 minute seminar, Burnout and Work Stress, led by me. This session gives your team a firsthand experience of practical strategies that support both mind and body.
In the seminar, we explore:
- The signs and stages of burnout—before it becomes unmanageable.
- Practical, science-backed stress reduction tools.
- Ways to integrate mental wellness into the daily flow of work.
We tailor each session to your workplace’s needs, whether you’re interested in one-time workshops, ongoing group programs, or direct access to therapists for individual sessions. We offer both in-person and virtual options to ensure flexibility for your team.

A Partnership in Wellness
Our approach emphasizes collaboration. We partner with HR leaders, managers, and executives to create mental health initiatives that fit seamlessly with your company’s culture and objectives. Some organizations begin with educational seminars and expand to offering regular therapy sessions, mindfulness programs, or wellness retreats. Others prioritize having a trusted referral system for employees who require confidential, individualized support.
The principle is straightforward: mentally healthy employees contribute to a stronger, more resilient organization. By investing in your team’s mental health, you are not only supporting their well-being but also fostering long-term success, productivity, and sustainability for your business.
If your company is ready to strengthen its wellness program with proven mental health support, we’d love to partner with you. Please reach out to us to schedule your complimentary Burnout and Work Stress seminar and see what’s possible when we treat mental health as an essential part of workplace success.
